Typography is an integral part of design. The right font can reflect the mood and emotion of the words written in it, elevating the beauty and elegance of even the simplest design.

And because everyone loves a freebie, today we bring you some of our favorite fonts available for FREE download. While free fonts abound on the Internet, this is a collection of high quality fonts suitable for professional design.

All of the fonts listed below are available for free personal and commercial use. However, before using fonts please read the license agreements carefully, as occasionally they change.


Carton is a strong yet sensitive slab-serif inspired by letterpress designed by Nick McCosker.


Fontin is designed to be used at small sizes. It’s available in Roman, italic, bold and small caps. The color is darkish, the spacing loose and the x-height tall.

Fontin Sans

Fontin Sans was designed to be a suitable sans companion of Fontin. With a nice classical appearance, Fontin Sans is available in regular, italic, bold, bold italic and small caps.

Chunk Five

Chunk Five, designed in California by Meredith Mandel for The League of Moveable Type is an ultra-bold slab serif typeface that is reminiscent of old American Western woodcuts, broadsides, and newspaper headlines. Used mainly for display, the fat block lettering is unreserved yet refined for contemporary use.

Yanone Kaffeesatz

Yanone Kaffeesatz was first published in 2004 and is reminiscent of 1920s coffee house typography. It was released under a Creative Commons license.


Based on lettering found on Laundromat windows of San Francisco’s Mission District, Lavanderia features numerous Open Type features and three weights. It was designed by James T. Edmundson.


Otama is a quiet yet confident typeface for expensive and fashionable designs. This typeface is free for personal and commercial use.

League Script #1

League Script #1 is a modern, coquettish script font that sits somewhere between your high school girlfriend’s love notes and handwritten letters from the ’20s. Designed exclusively for The League of Moveable Type by Haley Fiege, it includes ligatures and will act as the framework for future script designs.


Scriptina is beautiful handwriting font available for PC or Mac.


Hero is applicable for any type of design – web, print, logos, etc. This typeface contains 162 characters and is free for personal and commercial use. Available in the OpenType format for PC and Mac.
